ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Customer Base held off Stormy Lucy by nose to win the $100,000 Robert J. Frankel Stakes at Santa Anita on Sunday.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Customer Base ran 1 1/8 miles on the downhill turf course in 1:46.45 and paid $10, $4.80 and $3.20.

Stormy Lucy returned $5.60 and $3.80, while 2-1 favorite Gulsary was another 214 lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.

The victory, worth $60,000, increased Customer Base’s career earnings to $322,182, with five wins in 18 starts.

Winning trainer Tom Proctor also won Saturday’s $75,000 Eddie Logan Stakes with Enterprising.

The Grade 3 race is named for the late Hall of Fame trainer.

“Bobby meant a lot to everyone in the industry,” Smith said.
