ETSU led by 21 at the half, beats Valparaiso 73-62

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) — Jalen Riley scored 19 points and Rashawn Rembert added 16 as East Tennessee State took a 21-point halftime lead en route to a 73-62 victory over Valparaiso on Sunday.

Riley went on a one-man 8-0 run 13 minutes into the first half to put East Tennessee State up 29-12. The Buccaneers closed out the half with a 13-3 run — which included three points from Riley and five from Rembert — to lead 42-21 at the break.

The Buccaneers (7-6) made 10 3-pointers and finished with 14 steals.

Valparaiso (8-7) outscored East Tennessee State 41-31 after intermission, but could not climb back from the first-half deficit. LaVonte Dority led with 14 points, and Vashil Fernandez added 10 points and 14 rebounds.

The Crusaders grabbed 17 more rebounds than East Tennessee State (45-28), but turned the ball over 24 times — compared to nine turnovers for the Buccaneers.
