PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Seton Hall rebounded from letting a 12-point second-half lead slip away to defeat Providence in double overtime, 81-80, on Tuesday in the Big East opener for both teams.

Sterling Gibbs provided the deciding points as the sophomore swished two free throws with 3.3 seconds remaining in the second OT. Out of timeouts, PC’s last chance died at halfcourt when Tyler Harris was called for traveling.

Brian Oliver led the Pirates (10-4) with 18 points and five rebounds while Brandon Mobley had 16 points. Gibbs supplied 15 points off the bench for Seton Hall, now winners of three straight.

PC’s Bryce Cotton played all 50 minutes and led all scorers with 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Harris had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Friars (10-4).

Seton Hall was without Eugene Teague, who suffered a concussion against Lafayette. Teague is averaging 10.8 points and 9.4 rebounds per contest.
