EVERETT — A Bothell man who shot his terminally ill wife pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder and was sentenced to two years in prison.

The children of 55-year-old Donald McNeely had asked the Snohomish County Superior Court judge to show mercy to their father.

The Daily Herald reports he shot his wife, Linda McNeely, last March at their home. She was dying of brain cancer.

The defense lawyer said the family had explored legal suicide, but she was not a candidate because of dementia.
