Downing’s late basket lifts Missouri State 62-61

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — Anthony Downing hit a 3-point shot with 43 seconds remaining and Missouri State held on for a 62-61 victory over Evansville on Saturday.

Marcus Marshall led a balanced scoring effort for Missouri State (7-16, 3-6 Missouri Valley) with 14 points, including 9 of 11 from the free-throw line. Christian Kirk and Nathan Scheer scored 12 and 11 points, respectively for Missouri State (7-16, 5-6).

Colt Ryan led Evansville (13-10, 6-5) with 24 points, including 20 in the second half.

Evansville had a chance to win it with 2.9 seconds left in the game, but a shot by Ned Cox fell short. Cox finished with 12 points.

For the first time this season, Missouri State won a game when being outrebounded — Evansville had a 34-31 edge.
