A Jan. 21 Columbian story reported, “Are jail meal requests kosher?: That’s one issue the Clark County facility is facing as spike in special religious diets sends food costs soaring.” To those who object to prison inmates’ getting kosher meals, one may lose several rights in prison, but one doesn’t lose his or her religious rights. If an inmate keeps kosher or halal, they have a right to be fed a kosher or halal meal.
