Stores, defense lead Manhattan over Canisius 67-54

NEW YORK (AP) — RaShawn Stores scored a career-high 13 points to spark Manhattan to a 67-54 victory over Canisius on Thursday night in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game.

The sophomore guard, scored 12 points in the first half, including three 3-pointers, when the Jaspers (8-15, 6-7) took a 35-19 lead.

Manhattan continued to play excellent defense, holding a sixth straight opponent below 40 percent shooting. The Golden Griffins (15-9, 8-5) made just 18.2 percent (4 of 22) in the first half to the Jaspers’ 52.2 percent (12 of 23).

After trailing by 16 at halftime, Canisius, which shot 34.1 percent overall (15 of 44), never got any closer until the final 18 seconds of the game.

Donovan Kates had 14 points for Manhattan and Rhamel Brown added 13, making all six of his shots.

Alshwan Hymes scored 16 and Billy Baron 14 for Canisius.
