LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Jeremy Atkinson and Keith Hornsby scored 24 points apiece and Will Weeks poured in 12 points in a 4-minute spurt as UNC Asheville rallied past Virginia Military Institute 90-79 Friday night for the Bulldogs’ seventh straight win.

UNC Asheville (15-10, 9-2 Big South Conference) overcame a 34-point, 16 rebound performance by Stan Okoye, who helped the Keydets lead by five early in the second half.

The Bulldogs still trailed 62-59 when Atkinson dunked and Hornsby converted a three-point play. Weeks then scored 12 points in a 15-4 spree, capped by a layup with 4:53 left that made it 79-66.

VMI (11-11, 6-4) could get no closer than seven from that point, ending its two-game winning streak.

Atkinson also grabbed 10 rebounds for his fifth double-double of the season, while Hornsby had nine boards.

Hornsby, who came in ranked second nationally in free-throw percentage (94 percent) was 8 of 8.
