Norfolk State overwhelms Delaware State 74-56

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Malcolm Hawkins scored 20 points and Brandon Goode had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead Norfolk State past Delaware State 74-56 on Saturday.

Rob Johnson added 10 points for the Spartans (15-10, 10-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), who are the defending league champions and have won nine in a row. The Spartans snapped the Hornets’ five-game winning streak in the series. Pendarvis Williams scored nine points and needs eight to reach 1,000 in his career.

Marques Oliver had 16 points and a career-high 14 rebounds, and Miles Bowman scored 11 for Delaware State (10-12, 5-3), which had won four of five coming in.

The Spartans led 42-37 early in the second half but went on a 22-8 spurt to take control at 64-45 on Kris Brown’s layup with 6:28 left.

Norfolk State outscored Delaware State 40-24 in the paint and 23-8 in points off turnovers.
