ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Curvy Cat defeated 3-2 favorite Best Present Ever by a neck to win the $60,000 Deer Creek Purse for older fillies and mares at Santa Anita on Thursday.

Ridden by Joe Talamo, Curvy Cat ran 612 furlongs on the hillside turf course in 1:12.52 and paid $9.60, $4 and $3. It was the 4-year-old filly’s first race on the turf and the first time she was ridden by Talamo.

Best Present Ever returned $2.80 and $2.40, while June Cleaver was another 214 lengths back in third and paid $6 to show.

The victory, worth $46,800, increased Curvy Cat’s career earnings to $169,873, with six wins in 13 starts.
