Jacksonville edges local rival North Florida 70-68

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jarvis Haywood had 19 points and nine rebounds as Jacksonville edged North Florida 70-68 Friday night for its sixth season sweep in seven years against its local Atlantic Sun Conference rival.

The Dolphins (13-14, 8-6) trailed 68-65 with 2:33 remaining after Parker Smith’s 3-pointer for the Ospreys (10-17, 5-9) broke the game’s 10th tie.

Glenn Powell’s only basket of the game brought the Dolphins within a point, and Kordario Fleming’s jumper gave them a 69-68 lead with 1:15 left.

Keith McDougald, who had 16 points, tacked on a free throw with 10 seconds left, and North Florida’s Smith was unable to make a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

McDougald hit 3 of 4 from 3-point range and is shooting 49.1 percent (27 of 55) on treys in conference games.

Smith, who led North Florida with 22 points, made 4 of 8 3-pointers. Will Wilson added 13 points and nine assists.
