LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Brandon Ellis tied a season high with 25 points and Demarquelle Tabb added a double-double as Alabama A&M came back to beat Alcorn State 72-65 Saturday night in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
The Bulldogs (9-15, 5-8) trailed 36-26 at halftime, but forced a 45-45 tie on Ellis’ 3-pointer with 11:22 remaining. Four more ties and four lead changes followed, with Jose Long’s free throw putting Alabama A&M ahead 57-56 with 4:08 left. The foul shot sparked a 6-1 run that included another 3-pointer from Ellis.
Marquiz Baker’s 3-pointer for the Braves (9-20, 7-7) with 2:21 left pulled Alcorn State within 62-60, but the team didn’t score again until Anthony Nieves’ layup with 13 seconds left, too late for a comeback.
Ellis hit 5 of 7 3-pointers, while Tabb had 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Baker led Alcorn State with 20 points, while LeAntwan Luckett added 18.
