Up until the late 1940s, Los Angeles had the nation’s finest public transportation system, rail streetcars. They couldn’t wait to dismantle it in favor of traffic-clogged freeways. Now they are tearing many of them up them up to construct light rail in the form of subways. Let’s learn by other urban mistakes. Build the new Interstate 5 Bridge with rails in place. Cover them up if necessary (to satisfy the short-sighted) so it will be a lot cheaper to eventually surrender to light rail. Millions have been squandered in studies and not one piling has been placed.
Let’s copy other cities’ successes instead of mimicking their failures.
How did we ever get the Glenn Jackson Bridge built?
