Texas Southern beats MVSU 73-57

HOUSTON (AP) — Fred Sturdivant had 21 points and 17 rebounds Monday night, and Texas Southern won its eighth game in a row, defeating MVSU 73-57.

Ray Penn scored 14 points and Aaron Clyborn added 10 for the Tigers (13-14, 12-2 SWAC).

Davon Usher led the Delta Devils (4-21, 4-11) with 25 points.

Texas Southern trailed 12-11 with just over 13 minutes to play in the first half, but took the lead for good on Penn’s jumper that sparked a 12-0 run.

The Tigers outscored Mississippi Valley State 24-4 from the go-ahead basket to lead 35-18 at the break. MVSU made just five field goals in the half and shot 17 percent.
