ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Mizdirection led all the way in winning the $150,000 Buena Vista Stakes by 214 lengths at Santa Anita on Monday for co-owner and sports talk host Jim Rome.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Mizdirection ran 1 mile on the turf in 1:33.50 and paid $3.20, $2.60 and $2.10 as the 3-5 favorite in the field of eight. She hadn’t run the distance since winning at Del Mar on Aug. 19, 2011.

In the Stars returned $4.40 and $3.40, while Byrama was another one-quarter of a length back in third and paid $4.40 to show.

Mizdirection was bumped sharply after the starting gate opened, which resulted in the mare grabbing a section of her right front foot, which was bleeding after the race.
