ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Brandon Venturini scored 13 points as Navy held off American University 50-44 Wednesday night to snap a seven-game skid and post only its second win of 2013.

The Midshipmen (8-19, 2-9 Patriot League) also defeated Army 59-50 on Jan. 20, then three days later lost to American 72-49 during a stretch in which they dropped 13 of 14 games.

Tilman Dunbar added 12 points, Thurgood Wynn contributed 11 and Will Kelly grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for Navy, which led 21-12 at halftime.

The Eagles, who were 4-of-18 shooting in the first half, scored 10 unanswered points to tie it 30-30, but could never move into the lead. After Tony Wroblicky’s layup with 4:28 left made it 43-42, American did not score again until Blake Jolivette’s layup with 2 seconds showing.

Daniel Munoz scored 15 points and Stephen Lumpkins had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Eagles (10-16, 5-6).
