Kelly, Samford hold off UNC Greensboro 75-71

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Raijon Kelly scored 25 points to help Samford split its season series with UNC Greensboro in a 75-71 victory Saturday night.

Samford (11-18, 9-7 Southern Conference) led 45-31 at halftime, but UNC Greensboro (8-19, 6-10) crept to within 72-71 on Kayel Locke’s jumper with 17 seconds remaining. The Spartans fouled Kelly 4 seconds later, and Kelly hit both shots for a 74-71 spread.

UNC Greensboro’s Trevis Simpson missed a 3-pointer with 8 seconds left. Brandon Hayman grabbed the defensive rebound, was fouled and hit 1 of 2 foul shots to clinch it.

Kelly was 9-of-15 shooting, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range, and added six assists. Tim Williams had 16 points and Tyler Hood 14 for the Bulldogs.

Simpson paced the Spartans with 22 points, including 4-of-8 shooting from deep.

Nicholas Paulos scored five points for UNC Greensboro after scoring a career-high 30 against Chattanooga Thursday.
