Randall scores 18, Temple edges Charlotte 71-51

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Scootie Randall scored 18 points and Temple beat Charlotte 71-51 Sunday for the Owls’ third straight victory.

Temple (19-8, 8-5 Atlantic 10 Conference) jumped to a 6-0 lead, but Charlotte tied it 12-12 9 12 minutes in. The Owls responded with a 10-2 run, then closed the half with a 7-2 stretch to lead 39-24 at the intermission.

Khalif Wyatt added 12 points and Jake O’Brien 10 for the Owls.

Temple completed a season sweep of Charlotte, also having beaten the 49ers 89-88 on Feb. 6.

Charlotte (18-8, 6-6) has dropped four of its past five, with the lone win an upset of then-No. 11 Butler on Feb. 13. Pierria Henry and Mike Thorne each had 10 points to lead the 49ers, who shot 27.4 percent (17 of 62), including a 1-of-12 showing from 3-point range.

Temple shot 48.3 percent (28 of 58) and hit 10 of 24 treys.
