A search and rescue team spent more than eight hours rescuing a Portland woman who got lost snowshoeing east of Stevenson on Tuesday.
Betsy Steinhart, 36, used her cellphone to call 911 at 1 p.m. after she ran into heavy snow between Dog Mountain and Augspurger Mountain and felt unsafe continuing, said Skamania County Undersheriff Dave Cox.
Fifteen search and rescue personnel from area agencies searched for Steinhart for about three and a half hours before reaching her at 3,400 feet in the snow and high winds. They returned to the Dog Mountain trailhead by 9:35 p.m.
Steinhart was checked by medics at the scene but was not transported to a hospital.
