Boys basketball: Union 61, Battle Ground 52

Tyler Copp and Derek Derryberry hit some clutch 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the Titans converted 11 of 13 free throws in the final period to fend off Battle Ground in the 4A Greater St. Helens League opener for both teams.

Battle Ground led 43-42 after three quarters, but Union took the lead in the final quarter. The Titans led by four with 1:40 to play then Copp sealed the win by making 4 of 5 free throws.

Copp made 5 3-pointers in the game to finish with a game-high 28 points. Seaver Whalen lead Union with seven rebounds.

Miles Luke, Jamie Ford and Jake Sachen had 10 points each for Battle Ground.

UNION — Tyler Copp 28, Jeff Wu 3, Trent Cowan 5, Seaver Whalen 3, Kyle Mercer 8, Micah Paulson 5, Skillful Davis 0, Isaiah Robinson 0, Derek Derryberry 7, Riley Hawken 2, Spencer Martin 0. Totals 18 (8) 17-29 61.
