Rowley, Albany (NY) top Binghamton 71-59

VESTAL, N.Y. (AP) — Sam Rowley turned in his first double-double with career highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds as Albany (N.Y.) defeated Binghamton 71-59 Monday night in America East Conference action.

The double-figure scoring performance was the third this year for Rowley, who is averaging 6.6 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-8 sophomore from Sydney was 8 of 9 from the field and also dished out four assists.

Binghamton (2-13, 0-2) led 13-8 when Rowley and Luke Devlin combined to bring the Great Danes (13-4, 2-1) back. Devlin hit a jumper, a layup and a free throw consecutively and Rowley followed with two lay-ins for a 17-13 lead. Albany never trailed again and led 32-21 at halftime, with Rowley accounting for 11 points and Devlin seven of his 12.

Albany has won nine of its past 10.

Taylor Johnston led Binghamton with a career-high 22 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
