Western Carolina tops Div. II Warren Wilson 78-53

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) — Trey Sumler posted 18 points and five rebounds to lead Western Carolina over Division II program Warren Wilson 78-53 Monday night in nonconference play.

James Sinclair and Tom Tankelewicz each added 11 points for Western Carolina, which won back-to-back games for just the second time this season. Aside from Sumler, Sinclair and Tankelewicz, Western Carolina (6-9) got scoring contributions from 10 players, including 30 points off the bench.

Warren Wilson (7-7) was led by 13 points from Tyler Triplett. The Owls drew within two, 30-28, behind a Ty Johnson 3 to open the second half but Western Carolina used a 23-10 run over the next 10 minutes to pull away. Sumler capped the run with a fast-break layup as the Catamounts took a 53-38 lead midway through the second half.

Western Carolina shot 47.5 percent (28 of 59) from the field and scored 25 points of 23 Warren Wilson turnovers.
