Texas-Pan American beats Houston Baptist 70-60

HOUSTON (AP) — Jesus Delgado scored 15 points Tuesday night, leading five Texas-Pan American players in double figures, and the Broncs defeated Houston Baptist 80-70 Tuesday night in the final Great West Conference opener for both schools.

Ruben Cabrera had 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting for Texas-Pan American (8-10). Aaron Urbanus had 12 points, Brandon Provost scored 11 and Justin Leathers had 10 points.

Houston Baptist led 28-15 with 6 minutes remaining in the first half, but the Broncs trimmed their deficit to 32-26 by the break and then used a 16-1 run in the middle of the second half to take control.

Marcel Smith had 14 points to lead the Huskies (4-11). Ronald March scored 11 points and Caleb Crayton had 10 points for Houston Baptist.

UTPA will play in the WAC next season while Houston Baptist heads for the Southland Conference.
