A Vancouver resident has been penalized for carrying out an underground tank decommissioning project in Portland without a required license, according to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Jason Ronald Miltenberger was fined $2,533 as a result of the excavation project at 12214 S.E. Powell Blvd. He oversaw crews that carried out the work, decommissioning and removing underground tanks at a former gas station property that’s now home to a local tire business in Southeast Portland, according to DEQ.

Miltenberger told DEQ staff in September that he was acting as licensed supervisor on the project, according to DEQ. But he did not have a current tank services supervisor license — Miltenberger held a supervisor’s license from 2001 to 2008, according to DEQ.

Miltenberger has until Wednesday to appeal the fine.
