Camas, Washougal take on obesity crisis

An area nonprofit and a health club are teaming up with Kaiser Permanente to host HBO’s “The Weight of the Nation” documentary series.

Camas and Washougal on a Diet, a community weight-loss campaign, and Kaiser will host the documentary series at LaCamas Swim & Sport health club, 2950 N.W. 38th Ave. in Camas. Screenings will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month, beginning Jan. 9.

Screening events will include presentations about childhood obesity prevention, health food access and healthy living by area physicians, public health experts and community groups. After each screening, panelists will lead discussions about the obesity epidemic.

Here’s the screening schedule:

Jan. 9: “Nashville Takes Action: A City Battling Obesity”

Feb. 6: “Part 1: Consequences”

March 6: “Part 2: Choices”

April 3: “Part 3: Children in Crisis”

May 1: “Part 4: Challenges”
