TROY, Ala. (AP) — Emil Jones once again played a key role coming the bench and Troy defeated Louisiana-Monroe 64-55 Thursday night in Sun Belt Conference action.
Jones, coming off a season-high tying 18-point performance against Arkansas-Little Rock on Jan. 5, netted 17 Thursday on 7-of-13 shooting. The senior is averaging 10.1 points per game.
Ray Chambers added 11 points off the bench, Hunter Williams had 10 points and Josh Warren grabbed nine rebounds for the Trojans (7-10, 2-4).
Amos Olatayo paced the Warhawks (3-9, 2-4) with 17 points, and Marcelis Hansberry added 11. Jayon James, who had 19 points, 10 rebounds and six assists in Louisiana-Monroe’s win over North Texas on Jan. 5, had just two points, one rebound and four assists Thursday.
The win was the 495th for Troy’s 32-year coach Don Maestri. Prior to the game, the Trojans held a ceremony to name the playing surface at Trojan Arena “Court Maestri.”
