LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Augustine Rubit scored 26 points to help South Alabama beat Louisiana-Lafayette 91-89 Thursday night in double overtime.

Dre Connor and Antione Allen added 19 points apiece and Mychal Ammons tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds for South Alabama (8-7, 5-2 Sun Belt Conference), which led 40-30 at the end of the first half but had to rally to send the game into the first overtime.

The lead went back-and-forth in the first overtime before Allen’s layup tied the game 82-all with 45 seconds left. Neither team scored during those 45 seconds to force a second overtime, but South Alabama opened the second extra frame on a 7-2 run to pull away.

Ammons’ dunk with 20 seconds left created the final margin. Louisiana-Lafayette (6-12, 2-5) had possession with 8 seconds left in the second overtime but did not get a shot off before time expired.

Elfrid Payton’s 26 points led Louisiana-Lafayette.
