American Hendrickson wins World Cup ski jump

HINTERZARTEN, Germany (AP) — Defending overall World Cup champion Sarah Hendrickson of the United States edged Sawra Takanashi of Japan in a women’s ski jump World Cup on Saturday.

Hendrickson rallied for her second victory of the season. She was 0.2 points behind Coline Mattel of France in the first heat, then produced the longest jump of the second series by soaring 98.5 meters to win with 243.6 points.

Takanashi had the longest jump of the day at 99 meters in the first round and moved up one place to second with her second jump of 98 meters to collect 242.4 points. Mattel dropped to third at 240.4.

Takanashi remains in the lead overall, 139 points ahead of Hendrickson.
