Samford overcomes The Citadel 69-65

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Clide Geffrard Jr. scored 22 points on 7-on-11 shooting from the field, and Samford defeated The Citadel 69-65 in a Southern Conference game on Saturday night.

Raijon Kelly and Tim Williams had 15 points apiece for Samford (5-12, 3-1), which claimed its first road victory against The Citadel and swept the season series. Samford also snapped a five-game losing streak against The Citadel dating to 2009.

Matt Van Scyoc led The Citadel with 19 points, Marshall Harris III had 12 points to go with seven assists, P.J. Horgan 11, and Mike Groselle pulled down 11 rebounds to go with eight points.

The Citadel has lost 10 games in a row.

The Citadel led for only 1 minute, 16 seconds, that coming in the first half. It closed to 63-62 on Ashton Moore’s 3-pointer with 2:48 remaining, but Samford made six free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
