CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Robbie Keane has agreed to a multiyear contract extension with the Los Angeles Galaxy, extending the Irish national team captain’s stay with the two-time Major League Soccer champions.

The Galaxy also signed midfielder Juninho to a multiyear deal on Wednesday after three seasons on loan from his Brazilian club.

Keane has been a dominant striker since leaving Tottenham Hotspur for the Galaxy in August 2011. He scored 18 goals in 32 regular-season games last year and added six goals in the playoffs, leading Los Angeles to its second straight MLS Cup victory.

With David Beckham leaving the Galaxy and Landon Donovan contemplating a sabbatical from soccer, Keane’s return is vital to the Galaxy’s hopes of a third title.

Juninho was an MLS All-Star in 2011.
