Chattanooga beats Appalachian State 91-88 in OT

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Z. Mason posted 23 points and 11 rebounds, and Chattanooga edged Appalachian State 91-88 in overtime Thursday in a Southern Conference game.

Dontay Hampton came off the bench for 22, Ronrice White nailed 9 of 10 free throws for 17 points and Drazen Zlovaris had 10.

Appalachian State (7-9, 3-2) led 60-42 with 8:48 remaining but Chattanooga outscored the Mountaineers 33-15 over the next 7 minutes to cut the deficit to 77-75. Mason capped the spurt with a 3-pointer and layup and Hampton’s 3-pointer with 18 seconds showing sent the game into OT.

The teams battled to the game’s fourth tie, 85-85, in overtime, but Mason hit a layup and Appalachian State went just 1 for 4 over the final 2 minutes as Chattanooga (8-10, 3-2) pulled away. White hit four free throws over the final 22 seconds.

Nathan Healy had 22 points and 10 boards for Appalachian State.
