WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Capitals need to make a quick adjustment to their new coach.
Adam Oates is making his head coaching debut this season, and his players will be learning his system on the fly when the season opens Saturday.
The Capitals have a talent-laded roster that should again be a contender for the Stanley Cup. But they haven’t come anywhere close to the top prize in the Alex Ovechkin era because of their failure to convert regular season success into a long playoff run.
Oates says communication will be vital in the early games. He says “there’s going to be mistakes,” but that “every system has mistakes.”
