Hedlund, an author who has worked in health care for 30 years, will discuss “the complexities of hope, despair and resilience in coping with cancer diagnosis and the treatment of cancer.” Hedlund is the manager of patient and family services at OHSU’s Knight Cancer Institute. 360-256-9711.

JANUARY BONE MARROW DRIVE, “Be the Match Event — The Power to Save a Life,” 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 27 at Crossroads Community Church, 7708 N.E. 78th St. The program will try to match donors with patients with leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, sickle-cell diseases and other life-threatening diseases that require a bone marrow transplant.
