Benimon powers Towson over James Madison 73-47

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Jerrelle Benimon had 13 points and 12 rebounds for his 13th double-double of the season as Towson defeated James Madison 73-47 Saturday in a Colonial Athletic Association game.

Bilal Dixon and Jerome Hairston also scored 13 points each for the Tigers (10-9, 5-1), who are above .500 this late in a season for the first time since 1999-2000.

After leading 31-28 at halftime, Towson outscored the Dukes (9-10, 3-3) in the second half and outshot them 53.6 percent (15 of 28) to 26.9 percent (7 of 26). They also finished the game with a 45-33 edge on the boards.

Mike Burwell hit a pair of 3-pointers for Towson during an 11-2 run midway through the second half that stretched the Tigers’ lead to 53-36. He and Rafriel Guthrie scored 10 points each.

Alioune Diouf was the only James Madison player to score in double figures, getting 11 points.
