SEATTLE (AP) — The Seattle Mariners have agreed to one-year contracts with first baseman Kendrys Morales and shortstop Brendan Ryan to avoid arbitration.

The Mariners acquired Morales in a December trade with the Los Angeles Angels for left-handed pitcher Jason Vargas. Morales batted .273 with 22 home runs and 73 RBIs in 2012.

Ryan has started 254 of the Mariners’ 324 games over the last two seasons at shortstop. In 2012, he batted .194 with 31 RBIs and three home runs.
