Girls basketball: Castle Rock 38, Woodland 28

Macee Utecht scored 12 points and Nicole Seidl added 11 as Castle Rock all but wrapped up the Trico League title in a battle of two ranked teams.

The win gives the Rockets a 15-0 league mark, two games ahead of Woodland (13-2) with three games to play.

Castle Rock led 23-21 with about a minute to play in the third quarter. After missing a free throw, the Rockets got the rebound and Utecht hit a 3-pointer. Then Castle Rock produced a steal and hit a basket at the buzzer to go up 28-21.

“When you’re down seven and you’ve only scored 21 through three quarters, that’s a big deficit to overcome,” Woodland coach Glen Flanagan said.

The Beavers did cut the lead to down to three points with three minutes to go, but couldn’t get any closer.

Madison Sorenson led Woodland with nine points. Sidra Malik and seven points and four steals, and Jessica Flanagan added six points and five steals.
