Local officials and community members will help kick off Clark County’s Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center at 1300 Franklin St.

According to a county news release, goals of the initiative include eliminating unnecessary detention time, minimizing re-arrest and failure to appear rates, and reducing racial and ethnic disparities.

The local executive committee will give an overview of the initiative, followed by a question-and-answer session.

The county has a history of successful projects focused on youth in the juvenile justice system, along with victims and communities.
