No charges filed in ‘alarming’ Facebook post

The Camas Police Department will not seek charges against a Skyview parent who wrote a Facebook post in which he hoped someone would “shoot up” Camas High School “really soon.”

The post went live Tuesday night following a boys basketball game between Skyview and Camas. The post followed a verbal altercation between the parent, Jeffery R. Berni, 39, of Vancouver and a group of Camas students.

Sgt. Scott Boyles of the Camas Police Department said Berni’s actions did not constitute an immediate threat.

“When you look at this case in particular, it doesn’t fit with any crimes on the books,” Boyles said, including cyberstalking and interfering with a school event.

In Berni’s post, he wrote: “Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school really soon!!!!!!!!!!!”

Following the incident Tuesday night, parents said they were alarmed by the post.

The Camas and Vancouver school districts have banned Berni from their properties.

Berni did not respond to the Columbian’s request for comment. His Facebook page has also been taken down.
