Prep athlete of the week: Aubrey Ward-El, Skyview basketball

Aubrey Ward-El, Skyview girls basketball

Aubrey Ward-El of Skyview girls basketball was voted The Columbian’s high school athlete of the week for Jan. 14-19 in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Ward-El collected 50 percent of the 737 votes cast to beat out Jordan Heard of Skyview bowling, who had 29 percent.

Ward-El scored 21 points in Skyview’s big win over Union and added 14 in a win over Heritage as the Storm moved into first place in the 4A GSHL.

The other nominees were Gabe Bunker of La Center wrestling, David Snuffin of Columbia River swimming and Wyatt Yearout of Hockinson boys basketball.

Nominees are posted on The Columbian’s prep sports blog at www.360preps.com by Monday. Voting starts Monday and continues through 8 p.m. Thursday at www.facebook.com/360preps.
