Memphis overcomes East Carolina 75-68

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Joe Jackson scored 26 points and Shaq Goodwin pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Memphis to a 75-68 victory against East Carolina in a Conference USA game Wednesday night.

Geron Johnson had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Chris Crawford scored 11 for the Hoyas (17-3, 6-0), who have won 11 consecutive games since an 87-78 loss to Louisville on Dec. 15.

Ty Armstrong had 18 points and nine rebounds, Miguel Paul scored 15, Maurice Kemp 13 and Akeem Richmond 12 for East Carolina (12-8, 3-4).

Memphis never could quite shake the Pirates, who cut the lead to 51-47 on Paul’s layup with 8:08 left and trailed 57-52 on Paul’s jumper at 4:24.

Memphis pushed its lead to 11 points at 67-56 at 1:40 and held on for the win.

The Tigers’ biggest advantage came from the foul line, making 19 of 28 to the Pirates’ 8 of 14.
