Big 12 wants NCAA to allow conference title game

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) — Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby says the league likely will seek permission from the NCAA to hold a championship game even though it doesn’t have the 12 members required under the current rules.

During a visit to Oklahoma State on Wednesday night, Bowlsby told reporters the league “probably will” ask for a waiver from the NCAA to bend the rules. As he has done repeatedly, Bowlsby reiterated the league is comfortable with 10 members. One casualty of the departure of schools leaving the Big 12 as a 10-team league was the conference championship game, which wasn’t held last season for the first time since the league was formed.

Bowlsby says he considers it odd that as the NCAA is deregulating it would dictate how conferences crown their champions.
