Vinales, CCSU down Monmouth (NJ) 78-58

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Kyle Vinales scored 24 points and Adonis Burbage added 21 to help Central Connecticut State blow out Monmouth (N.J.) 78-58 Thursday night in a Northeast Conference matchup.

Joe Efese added nine rebounds and seven blocks for Central Connecticut State (9-11, 5-4).

Ahead 24-21 with 8:27 remaining in the first half, Central Connecticut State closed out the period on a 24-11 run. Burbage made three of the seven 3-pointers for the Blue Devils in the first half and Vinales had 16 points as Central Connecticut State led at halftime 48-32.

Monmouth (8-14, 3-6) would get as close as 51-40 behind Andrew Nicholas’ jumper with 15:51 left to play, but Malcolm McMillan answered on the next possession with a 3-pointer to go up 54-40 with 15:30 remaining.

Monmouth shot just 35.7 percent (10 of 28) in the second half.

Marcus Ware led the Hawks with 16 points and six rebounds.
