MONTREAL (AP) — Stephane Waite, who helped shape goalies Corey Crawford and Antti Niemi for the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, is the Montreal Canadiens’ new goaltending coach.

Waite is taking over on Thursday for Pierre Groulx, who was let go at the end of the season. Waite had been the Blackhawks’ goalie coach for 10 years, winning the Cup twice in that time.

Now he will work with Canadiens veterans Carey Price and Peter Budaj. Montreal also selected Zach Fucale in the draft on Sunday.

This past season, Waite — the brother of former NHL goalie Jimmy Waite — helped Crawford and Ray Emery win the Jennings Trophy awarded to the goalies with the league’s best goals-against average.

Other NHL goalies Waite has worked with include Craig Anderson, Nikolai Khabibulin, Jocelyn Thibault, Brian Boucher, Felix Potvin, Jean-Sebastien Aubin, Michael Leighton, Patrick Lalime, Cristobal Huet and Marty Turco.
