LAKEVILLE, Conn. (AP) — German driver Lucas Luhr earned his first American Le Mans Series pole of the season and the 20th of his career Friday in qualifying for the Northeast Grand Prix at Lime Rock Park.

With track temperature topping 120 degrees, Luhr turned the fast lap by averaging 119.524 mph around the 1.474-mile road course. Luhr has the most wins in ALMS history, scoring No. 43 at Laguna Seca in May. He and co-driver Klaus Graf are the defending race champions at Lime Rock.

Ryan Briscoe, who is competing in both the ALMS race Saturday and the IndyCar race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, took the P2 class pole. NASCAR veteran Colin Braun (Prototype Challenge class), John Edwards (GT class) and Spencer Pumpelly (GT Challenge class) also earned poles.
