MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have activated slugger Ryan Braun from the disabled list and placed third baseman Aramis Ramirez on the DL with a nagging left knee injury.

Braun has been out for a month with a bruised right thumb. He was not in the lineup for the opener of a three-game series against Cincinnati, but he planned to test his hand again in batting practice and could be available to pinch-hit.

The 2011 NL MVP is batting .304 with nine homers and 36 RBIs in 57 games this season.

Ramirez sprained his left knee on April 5 and was placed on the DL the next day. He was sidelined for a month, but the injury has lingered.

The move for Ramirez is retroactive to Sunday.
