SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The San Francisco Giants have placed infielder Joaquin Arias on the disabled list with appendicitis and recalled Nick Noonan from Triple-A Fresno.

The Giants made the move before opening a three-game series against the New York Mets on Monday night. It wasn’t immediately clear how long Arias would be out, though players typically return within three to four weeks after an appendectomy.

Arias is batting .282 with 10 RBIs in 60 games this season, playing third base, first base and shortstop

Noonan has played 48 games with the Giants this year, batting .212 with four RBIs and playing every infield position but first base. He batted .311 with eight RBIs in 11 games for Fresno.
