CHICAGO (AP) — Two people familiar with the situation say the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a deal with No. 2 draft pick Kris Bryant for the slot signing bonus of around $6.7 million.

The people spoke Wednesday on the condition of anonymity because the deal has not been announced. Several outlets had reported the agreement.

A 6-foot-5, 210-pound third baseman from the University of San Diego, Bryant led Division I college players with 31 home runs as a junior last season. He is a Golden Spikes finalist.

The Cubs would not confirm the agreement.

General manager Jed Hoyer did say “strictly hypothetically” Bryant would start out at “the very low levels” of the minors and hopefully “move quickly through those.”

The slot value for the second pick is $6,708,400.
