DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks have met with Andrew Bynum and are in negotiations with the free agent center.

Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said the team was having “a medical discussion” after meeting with Bynum and his agent in Dallas on Wednesday, the first day free agent signings can become official.

Nelson says team doctors evaluated Bynum but that he didn’t work out.

The 25-year-old Bynum had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in March and didn’t play at all for Philadelphia after the 76ers acquired him last summer.

Bynum has a two-year offer from Cleveland, with a team option for the second year. He also visited Atlanta this week.

The Mavericks are still looking for a starting center after Dwight Howard chose to sign with Houston.
