INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) — Meydan Magic has been declared the winner of the $55,000 feature at Betfair Hollywood Park after Pulpit’s Express was disqualified.
Pulpit’s Express and jockey Edwin Maldonado swept to the lead and drew off to a 234-length victory on Thursday. But the stewards posted the inquiry sign and then disqualified the 4-year-old gelding, placing him sixth. He was the 8-5 favorite.
They ruled that Pulpit’s Express got in the path of Toledo Eddie, racing inside of him, causing Toledo Eddie to clip heels and stumble sharply, costing him a chance at a better placing. Toledo Eddie wound up sixth, so Pulpit’s Express was placed behind him.
Meydan Magic paid $12.20, $6.40 and $4. The time for 1 mile on the turf was 1:35.82.
