TORONTO (AP) — Jimmy Vasser’s return to competition at Toronto was short-lived.
The 1996 CART champion had planned to compete in the Speed Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks series owned by Robby Gordon in both Saturday and Sunday’s races. But Vasser hurt his back on a rough landing in Saturday morning practice.
IndyCar orthopedic specialist Dr. Terry Trammell sent Vasser to a local hospital for X-rays.
Vasser says the X-rays looked fine at the hospital, but the pictures were sent back to the track for Trammell to give a second opinion.
Too sore to continue, Vasser pulled out of the races and was replaced by former IndyCar driver Davey Hamilton.
Vasser was then given a padded stool to sit on as he called the IndyCar race for Indianapolis 500 winner Tony Kanaan.
